This Week


1. Hilary Clinton announces Tim Kaine as her VP running mate. Kaine, an attorney and junior senator  from Virginia hit the election campaign trail Saturday with a stop at Miami. The choice for vice president is a strategic one as Kaine comes from a battleground state and has not lost an election.


2. "Vote Your Conscience"


Texas Senator Ted Cruz refused to endorse Donald Trump's nomination for president at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Cruz stated he could not support someone who  attacked his father and wife with allegations and critical remarks.

3.  

A play on words- Melania Trump was accused of plagiarizing Michelle Obama's 2008 speech, after she spoke at the Republican National Convention. At first Trump's campaign denied the allegations, but days later confirmed that some of the words were taken from the speech. The story was first reported after Jarret Hill, a freelance journalist noticed the similarities and posted it on Twitter. Trump aide Meredith Mclver offered her resignation for the incident. Recently, the Democratic PAC filed an FEC complaint over the speech.

4. Film and TV  Legend Garry Marhsall


Actor, director, producer and comedian Garry Marshall passed away at 81 on July 19th from pneumonia. Marshall was best known for Happy Days, The Odd Couple, Laverne & Shirley, Pretty Woman and The Princess Diaries.

Time to Catch em' All


Pokemon Go rolled out this week on ios and android devices. Fans of the popular Nintendo and Game Freak franchise are traveling across the lands searching far and wide, as the dream to catch pokemon becomes a reality. Celebrating the 20th anniversary with new merchandise such as the Pikachu graduation plush, hats and details on Pokemon Sun and Moon, the release of the mobile app gives aspring trainers another reason to rejoice.

Also players can battle gym leaders, but must reach level 5 to do so. Although the games seems like a dream come true, there are some flaws.

1. Brexit- UK says goodbye to EU as a majority votes to leave. Now EU scrambles negotiate to make the tranist process as quickly as possible as the pound drops and financial futures remain uncertain. Also, Britain's Prime minister David Cameron resigned after referendum as he states he is not the right leadership for Britain's new era.

2. Chile defeats Argentina in final match of COPA with 4-2 penalties. After devastating loss, Messi announces his retirement from the sport.

3. Immigration reform will have to wait as the Supreme Court could not come to a decision with tie vote.

4. Stonewall Inn became a national monument as NYC celebrated pride week.

Turner Levels up the eSports Experience

Turner Studios built a new state of the art studio for exclusively for gaming live hosting.

In partnership with WME| IMG, the Turner presents ELEAGUE- live hosting of Counter Strike:Global Offense featuring  players] from 24 teams competing in two 10 week bracketing in the studio for a chance to win $1.4 million. The studio equip with 26 cameras, 25,000 LED lighting and over 70 production rooms will bring audiences a new perspective from previous streaming .

Twitch's Battle Bots

Twitch, the leading platform in video streaming filed a lawsuit against seven bot makers in attempt to combat the sellers from inflating view counts.  The Amazon subsidiary is seeking damages for breaches in contracts, infringement, The documents filed with the United States District Court state the bots “hurt the quality of the experience community members have come to expect from Twitch.”

In a blog post Matthew DiPetro, Senior Vice President of marketing, states the company wants to protect streamers broadcast their services legally.


Bots are used to harass other broadcasters in order to attempt to deny them partnership, or get their channel suspended. All of this is enabled by bot services offered by a handful of sellers who make misleading claims for their own commercial benefit. We take this situation very seriously and would like you to know what we’re doing about it, he stated.”


If Twitch succeeds the bots will be barred from using the any platform’s services including attempting to sell bots to users.

The American Life-It'll Make Sense When You're Older: Middle Age Review


    The program offers answers to individuals. Individuals whom worry about the feeling of missing out. The American [A-me-ri-can] Life Host Chana [Sha-na] Joffe [Jo-ff]-Walt describes her anxieties with age. She wonders about the choices in the future. Joffe questions the need for free time. 

  Her guest disagrees with her perspective on middle age. He says he has no anxieties. He focuses his time on work than friends. Joffe discovers middle age can be difficult for some. The way she deals with it is up to her.
